Depuis ces dernières années, l'Inde est au coeur de toutes les attentions et bénéficie d’un contexte économique porteur. Quel est l'état actuel du marché de la distribution en Inde ? Quelles sont les perspectives d'investissement pour les entreprises françaises et indiennes ? Quel sera le bon moment pour pénétrer le marché indien dans ce secteur et à quelles conditions ?

Une conférence organisée par La Division Asie des Sciences Po , en partenariat avec l'ESSEC International, et avec le soutien de l'Ambassade de France en Inde, de la Mission Economique de Bombay.

- M. Arvind SINGHAL, Président, Technopak Advisors, Inde
Résumé : “Deciphering the Indian Retail market” - India’s highly-fragmented $300-billion retail industry, which is dominated by small family-run stores, is forecast to more than double in size by 2015. Mr. Arvind Singhal shared the views on the trends and situation of the Indian Retail market. His presentation examined recent developments and offered fresh thinking on the opportunities and challenges for French and Indian companies - (filmed intervention).

- M. Sumant SINHA, Président Directeur Général, Aditya Birla Retail, Inde
Résumé : “Launching a pan-Indian retail chain on its own: “More” about vision and prospects” – In May 2007, Aditya Birla Group, India’s leading business conglomerate, announced a $2-billion investment plan for a nationwide retail chain. Mr. Sumant Sinha shared the Group’s ambitions and experience in India’s domestic retail market, as well as outlining the reasons behind Aditya’s decision to operating a new retail business on its own – (filmed intervention).

Résumé : “Scaling up in India: the ambitions & development strategy of a French apparel brand” - Etam, leading French fashion apparel today, announced aggressive expansion plans in India, entering into a joint venture with Pantaloon Industries Ltd (Future Group) for the lingerie and accessories segment. As well as giving a full update on the progress of this venture, Ms. Elisabeth Cunin shared her vision of retail in India, the challenges to overcome and the expected results.

Résumé : “France-India business relations in spotlight” - Business environment in India is changing fast, while foreign investors are flooded in. In her presentation, Ms. Manju Seth highlighted the evolving business climate and the state of French-Indian economic relations, including the new regulations for foreign retailers and reforms to attract investments.

Résumé : “The legal environment of retail business and foreign investment in India” - Despite the dramatic change of the business environment, retail remains a very sensitive sector that was among the latest to open to foreign investors. What are the new rules for foreign retailers? Who is able to invest and how? Olivier Monange reviewed the latest developments and gave a full update on the progress of the legal environment - (filmed intervention).
