Since 2003, the ESCoM has been providing teaching that uses ARA’s audiovisual collections. In most cases, these are graduate or post-graduate level courses about building audiovisual corpuses, comparative and critical study of corpuses on specific areas or “themes,” republishing audiovisual corpuses according to a set scenario, or the linguistic and cultural adaptation of videos produced in a language most users do not understand (adapting a video in French to a Russian audience, for example).

Online courses on critical and concrete work dealing with ARA’s audiovisual collections:

1. Lecture critique d’extraits vidéo enligne consacrés à la globalisation, l’identité culturelle et le phénomène du transnationalisme dans le cadre de cours de niveau L2/L3 et M1/M2 dispensés à l’Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) à Paris – lecture critique s’appuyant sur des guides de travail à destination des étudiants ainsi que de questionnaires pour analyser les extraits vidéo (année universitaire 2008-2009 : cours de L2 en communication interculturelle ; cours de M1 en communication interculturelle).

2. Description, indexing and (re-)publishing of audiovisual resources in online archives. Corso di Laurea (Master 2 course) at the Facoltà di Scienze della Comunicazione - Università di Roma "La Sapienza" (academic year 2007 – 2008)

3. Semiotics of Culture - Text writing and reading as an intercultural process. Cours – en anglais – de niveau M2 à l’Universade Aberta à Lisbonne, Portugal (academic year 2006 – 2007)

4. Describing, indexing, and annotating oral scientific discourse (interviews and conferences). Graduate level courses (taught in French) at the Institut National des Langues and Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris (academic years: 2003-2004 ; 2004-2005 ; 2005- 2006 ; 2006-2007)

5. Working with audiovisual archives. Doctoral courses (in French) at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo à Mendoza, Argentina (academic year 2003-2004)
